
Kidz Fun Art has a simple to use Pixel Art brush that lets you draw with multiple different sizes of pixels.

# How do I use it?

Simply choose the Pixel Art icon <InlineImage src="/images/controls/pixel.png" alt="Pixel Art brush" height="40" width="40" /> and start drawing! you'll notice that a light grey grid is drawn on top of the image to guide your pixel placement, and it changes the size of each square depending on the pixel size you choose using the brush size selector on the top right.

Of course it works with all colours, including the awesome rainbow gradients.

Now go make some fun nostalgic 8-bit pictures!

## How do I get started?

Kidz Fun Art is a free art app optimized for use on a tablet or computer. It works great with Wacom tablets, iPads, Apple Pencils, Microsoft Surface, Android tablets and more!

To get started, simply download the app from

- [Web App](https://kidzfun.art) - works on any device with a web browser, you can even install it on your home screen like a native app.
- [Apple App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kidz-fun-art/id6443621939), iPad only.
- [Microsoft Store](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9npwjmg2ps51). Works great on touch enabled Surface devices, but also with mouse and Wacom tablets.

If you like the app, you have the option of subscribing to unlock all the features. If you prefer to keep using the free version, there are still loads of great features included.

Welcome to Kidz Fun Art


Kidz Fun Art lets you create real mini-masterpieces with its realistic paint brushes. Mix your colours and use different brush sizes to create beautiful paintings. It works even better if you have a pressure sensitive pen like the Apple Pencil!

## How do I paint?

Simply choose the paint brush icon <InlineImage src="/images/controls/paint_brush.png" alt="Paint brush" height="40" width="40" /> and start painting!! You'll notice that, just like a real paint brush, the paint fades out the longer your stroke lasts. Also, new paint mixes with existing paint to create new colours, with each individual bristle having its own unique colour as you mix.

## Using a digital pen

When you use a digital pen with a tablet, for example the Apple Pencil, you can get even more fine grained control as it supports pressure sensitivity. The harder you press, the more paint you put down on the canvas, just like in real life.

## Wet and dry paint

Some times you don't want the paint to mix, you just want to simulate painting over paint that has already dried.  No problem!  There is a little popup control that shows up when you use the paint brush that lets you toggle between wet and dry paint.

Paint For Real


Kidz Fun Art lets little artists create their own stickers, and use them in their drawings.
It's a great way to quickly draw patterns like leaves, flowers and grass, but
also to create fun characters and objects that can be used in their drawings over and over again.

## See how it's done

To create a sticker, select the area you want to turn into a sticker, and then tap the
sticker button in the popup menu. This will open the sticker library, where you can choose to either

- **Paste** the sticker into your drawing. This works just like duplicating the selection, but you can keep it forever and use between different drawings.
- **Paint with the sticker** using the sticker brush. This allows you to paint with the sticker, just like you would with a regular brush, but it will use the sticker instead of a solid colour. There are a number of options for the sticker brush. The can change the **size**, **rotation**, **brightness** and **horizontal flip** of the sticker.

## Deleting stickers

If the sticker library gets too full, or you created a sticker by mistake, you can delete stickers from the library. To do this, tap the edit button. This will show a red delete icon on each sticker. Tap each sticker you want to delete, then tap the edit button again to stop deleting stickers. If you deleted a sticker by mistake, not to worry, there's a big trash can icon at the bottom of the sticker library that, when tapped, will restore all recently deleted stickers.


Sticker Brush and Library


Kidz Fun Art makes it easy for kids to modify their drawings with a range of simple and fun selection tools. Some of these work on all drawing types, others are specialised for things like animations.

## Duplicate

The simplest tool is the Duplicate tool. This allows your child to select any part of their drawing and duplicate it, creating a copy that they can move around or modify. To use it, select the **Selection** tool on the right, then drag a box around the area you want to duplicate. Once selected, tap the **Duplicate** button that appears next to your selected box.

## Rotate

To rotate a selection, first select the area you want to rotate using the **Selection** tool. Once selected, tap the **Rotate** button that appears next to your selected box. You can then drag your finger or pen on the circle that appears in front of the selection.

## Swirl

The **Swirl** tool was a great idea by the Kidz Fun Art product designer, my 8 year old daughter. To use it, select the area you want to swirl using the **Selection** tool. Once selected, tap the **Swirl** button that appears next to your selected box. You can then drag your finger or pen on the circle that appears in front of the selection to swirl it around.  Isn't it cool?

## Blur

Blurring an image is a common effect used in art and photography. Our initial reason for including it was to add a sense of depth to background layers, but your child can use it creatively in many ways. To blur a selection, first select the area you want to blur using the **Selection** tool. Once selected, tap the **Blur** button that appears next to your selected box. This pops up a dialog with a slider that allows you to adjust the amount of blur applied to the selection. Move the slider left or right to increase or decrease the blur effect, then tap the **Thumbs Up** button to confirm.

## Animation: Copy between Frames

When working with animations, you can copy parts of your drawing from one frame to another. This is useful for creating consistent elements across frames or reusing parts of your drawings. To use it, select the **Selection** tool and drag a box around the area you want to copy. Then, tap the **Copy Between Frames** button that appears next to your selected box - it looks like two blue pages with an arrow between them. This is place a copy of the selected area above the list of frames.  Switch to any number of other frames, and just tap that copied area to paste it into that frame. You can then move it around or modify it as needed.

## Animation: Move Along a Path

A really cool feature for animations is the ability to move a selected area along a path. This is another feature inspired by our 8 year old product designer, watching her laboriously move a ball frame by frame to make it bounce across the screen. We thought there must be a better way, and this is it!

Your child to create dynamic animations where elements follow a specific route. To use it, select the area you want to move using the **Selection** tool. Once selected, tap the **Move Along Path** button that appears next to your selected box - it looks like a dotted line with an placemarker at one end and a flag at the other. You can then drag the selection to draw a path on the canvas, and the selected area will follow that path when you play the animation. You can choose how many frames to use for the animation, and it will create new frames if needed.
